Today a fifth and fourth grade class at Tate Elementary School in Tate, GA found minerals and bones that nobody knew existed. This started out as a class project and ended in an awesome discovery! In discovery! Sara Watkins, the teacher of this class, stated, “ These boxes that came from the store, I did not know had so much use.” Sara had simply opened the box of rocks and started digging with the children, hoping to have them write about the experience later on. This is a stunning discovery and will be continued on the news.
Hello I’m Sara Traveler Reporting for the Storybrooke daily news, and today, Sydney Coffin a Geologist from Storybrooke, Georgia has made a discovery of an outbreak of new black grey speckled rocks. Here is what she said when I asked her, “ How did you find the rocks?” Sydney said,’”Well I was walking around and I went pretty far. I couldn't see Storybrooke anymore and I came across this big grey chunk. So I ran back home and bought a pickaxe from the store and started mining. First ,I dug into the big chunk, and found out it was chalk. I found the rocks and there were nine of them. Then I dug in the ground around the rock and they were there too. So, I returned to the town grabbed my megaphone and yelled “Look guys, look!” and Sara was the first one to come out and here we are now.” Sydney said that she plans to give the money she gets to charity and continue to study the black grey speckled rock.
Monday I observed a mineral dig at Tate Elementary. A young lady named Kensley Poole was using a Dig It Up Mineral and Fossil ™ kit. Kensley and her classmates did Dig It Up ™ because they needed something to write about for their daily grade. To get the mineral or fossil out she used a Dig It Up ™ tool to dig the mineral or fossil out with. She dug a bunch of holes then she finally broke it and she found a rock. She dug and dug until she got it out, then she found another one and dug it out. In the end she only found two rocks. After I asked her and her classmates if they had fun. They all said they had a great time and are hoping to do it again.
Today, at Tate School just after Valentine’s Day, Jeffy Bobby Peterson was a paleontologist. He dug the rock up with a small chisel. He dug up minerals. He found five rocks and more to be found. Mrs.Salter even let Jeffy take it home. Jeffy found two brownish rocks, three blackish rocks, and one red rock. He still has to dig out maybe one more rock! Jeffy was excited when he started to dig he wanted to dig all day!
Today Jeffy McDummerson found two rocks. They are from Pickens County, Georgia 256,766,098,086,067,087 years ago. The kind of rock is unknown, but it is thought to be a Mica rock. Scientists are studying this rock to this moment. Jeffy McDummerson quoted, “ I have never seen something like this, and I Mean It.” Jeffy McDummerson says that he is going to keep digging for rocks. I will keep you updated about the rocks discovery.
Today Billy Bob Sue found a full set of bones a Paleontologist from Georgia. He said he thought it was an Ankylosaurus. Billy said he thought this was a major discovery because he can study it and he is hoping there is still some DNA on the bones, so he can try to bring back the Ankylosaurus. We had a reporter meet with him and he said “ I have been trying to find bones of the Ankylosaurus for a long time and finally have and hoping there is still DNA left on the bones.” He has been digging on a site that has been to said to have remains of dinosaurs. He was able to do this with a team of 20 Paleontologist’s he used drills shovels when he hit something hard he told everyone to stop and grab shovel and dig around it. This is how Billy Bob Sue found a full set of bones from the Ankylosaurus.
Today at Tate Elementary School, I, Nate Townsend became a paleontologist. The other paleontologists that joined me were R.J. Mullins, Brody Teal, Kensley Poole, Macey Cook, and Micah Newton. Our task was to find the dinosaur if we chose a dinosaur egg, or if we chose a rock we were supposed to find the minerals inside the rock. We used tiny chisels to dig away the outer parts to find what was inside. The reason why we did this is because we were told it was really fun. That is what happened in the gifted class at Tate Elementary School.
Last week in gifted we watched a Mystery Science that was teaching us about alchemists and chemical reactions. The following was a lesson that when some chemical reactions were included. Two of the reactions were resulted in slime. When we were done we made our own batch of slime. The slime wasn't as gooey as my other slimes but I still had fun. I hope we do more fun things like this later on in the year!
Last week we went in groups and my group which consisted of Catherine, Jadyn, Nate and me. We figured out how to record our voices and play them on recon®
We made some goo in Gifted today. It was fun because I had never made goo before. Here are the steps to making goo. First you are going to fill a bag full of glue. Next your going to pour some borax in the glue. Than your going to fill your bag with warm water than you are going to shake it for 2 minutes!!! This what we did in Gifted. |
