Before I can tell you about mold I need to tell you about mushrooms. Mushroom roots cover the forest decomposing dead leaves. Mushrooms are things we call decomposers. Decomposers take dead things and turn them into nutrients for themselves. Mold is basically microscopic mushrooms. They are so light they float in the air. When they land on food that is laying out they grow mold on it and decompose it. If it was'int for mushrooms there would be tons of leaves in the forest. The way people stop mold from growing on food is by refrigerators. Before they had refrigerators people used salt to stop fungi growing on food. People put meat in rivers also. That is mold and fungi. Avery
