Last week we were alchemists and combined different materials to make gold!!!!!!! Just kidding but we were alchemists though. Anyway, we combined different materials and they were, borax, glue, vinegar and milk and at the end we made a giant bag of slime using borax, water and glue. It was fun. yyyyyyyyyaaaayyyyyy!!!!!
Addy A couple days ago we had all watched a mystery science about how acid was related to fireworks. Somehow that got us to an experiment where we mixed a whole bunch of stuff together. Of course since Mrs.Salter gives us whatever we want, we got to make mystery goo. At first it got kinda messy 'cause Mrs.Salter let us pour our glue, and it got everywhere. I'm not sure it was everyone that made a mess. Probably just me. At the end we all got to take our goo home and whenever I showed anyone in fifth grade I ended up loosing a piece. Which was fine because by the time I got home there was none left because everyone got some.
Catherine wrote this Last week in gifted we mixed certain things to make goo. Our main goal was to make goo but only a small amount of goo the first time because we only had tiny drops of the chemicals. The chemicals we had were borax, glue, baking soda, vinegar, and milk. The way we made goo was with borax and glue. At the end of the day Mrs. Salter let us make a whole bag of goo! To make it we used warm water, glue, and water. It was hard to make the goo but we did it.
by: Nate First of all, I just want to say that fourth grade beat fifth grade. Mrs. Salter divided us into two groups one was fourth grade and one was fifth grade. They beat us to the first clue/object which was a flashlight that makes a certain ink visible which you wouldn't normally see. But fourth grade still won overall. The second box that we opened was pretty easy and I don't know how fifth grade didn't figure it out it. Literally it said the answer clearly on the paper. It said right 2 down 2 and right one. Then inside the box there was a Qr code that is used on a app on the Ipad. Then when we scanned it and it brought us to a giant website about Area 51 and the answer to the next clue was hard to find but we finally got it and it was 4808. Then she gave us a piece of paper with the answer highlighted. And the final prize was batteries for Recon. So I think that Breakout EDU was great. By: Nate Last week we did Breakout EDU. The 4th graders went against the 5th graders. We tried to get into the first box but the 5th graders beat us to it. The code was supposed to be the possible months of alien invasion. Maecy figured out the code and got us to the next box. The directions were to get the arrows into the right order. Maecy and I got into the box with the help of the boys. Then we got to the next box. The code that Mrs. Salter put in was not the same one that was in the iPad. So she let us have the next clue. The next code was highlighted and then we put the code in and got into the final box which had........BATTERIES FOR RECON!!!!
The 5th graders got into the final box and we talked about our mistakes and then we opened Recon but we didn't have a screw driver. :( That was my experience with Breakout EDU! Last week in gifted class we did something called breakout EDU. We had to work as a team to solve clue's to find the code to a lock. The teams were 4th grade vs. 5th grade. I was in the 4th grade team. 5th grade solved the first clue which gave them the code to the first lock. 4th grade was stuck one the first clue. The 5th graders got stuck on the second clue. Then the 4th graders solved clue 1 and then went on to clue 2 and solved that lock. Then the 4th graders got the 3rd clue and we got stuck on it. The 5th graders were still stuck on the second clue. Finally the 5th graders solved the second clue and were on the the 3rd one. Then 4th grade solved the last clue and got batteries to our new robot Recon. After that 4th grade won me and my team worked hard.
We did break out edu which is where you have to decode locks to get the next clue to decode the next lock. I was in a group of 6 it was fun to decode locks because once I read a book on locks and how decode some. At first we were really confused then all of the sudden we knew that we have to use are clues to decode the locks so we decoded the locks using the clues then on the last lock i knew the code right of the bat it was truth so I put truth in and tried to open the lock it worked the prize inside were the batteries to are robot recon he is a rover we were happy till we figured out that we needed a screwdriver to open the thing :( then that is all that happened after it was still a fun day!
By: RJ Last week we wrote a recipe on how to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. We were supposed to be detailed but not a lot of us weren't. First of all Nate made Mrs. salter get peanut butter in her nails. Of course she freaked out. Then Mr. Spencer had a really messy lunch. But we all had fun. Of course Seth's was super weird and I wasn't detailed at all. But we had a good time.
Catherine was here :p Today we were architects we created a catapolt and some of us made A SLINGSHOT WHEN THEY WERE NOT SUPPOSED TO! Me and Jennifer made several attempts to make a catapult we were in second to last place. :(. then we made a tower made out of nothing but marshmallows and toothpicks. Cole won.
